The Eclipse That Started a Journey to the Stars ——Willie’s ZWO journey

“My Name is Willie Stickley (@WillieHustles) and I am a 26 year old photographer and videographer from Cleveland, Ohio (United States) and I am the current Vice President of the Chagrin Valley Astronomical Society.” His passion for space began in childhood through a love of physics and astronomy, but everything changed after witnessing and photographing the 2024 total solar eclipse.

That experience showed him that capturing the cosmos wasn’t reserved for professionals—it was something anyone could pursue with dedication and the right tools.

As he became more serious about astrophotography, Willie built his system around ZWO equipment, starting with an ASI533MC Pro and later adding the AM5 mount. Together, they allowed him to push his imaging further than ever before, from cooling his camera to reduce thermal noise to capturing 10-minute guided exposures with confidence.

One of his favorite targets is SDSO-1, the Ghost Planetary Nebula near the Andromeda Galaxy. Its unique structure and scientific significance have fascinated him ever since its discovery.

Outside astronomy, Willie enjoys creating YouTube content, gaming, and, as he puts it, “anything that involves capturing photons.”

His journey is a reminder that age is no barrier to exploring the universe. Sometimes all it takes is one unforgettable night under the sky to change everything.

Thank you, Willie, for sharing your story with us. We can’t wait to see where your astrophotography journey takes you next.
